Woodstock Garden School is located on a 1/3 acre lush garden full of opportunities to explore and play. We have a year-round garden, mature apple, fig, pear, plum, cherry, and peach trees, a raspberry patch, plus a bamboo forest with tunnels to explore. The school is located in a 100-year-old bungalow just a few blocks from SE Woodstock Blvd and SE 52nd Ave. We are outside year round, and no child is too young to reap the benefits of fresh air and fresh, homegrown food. For times when we want to be warm and dry but need to move our bodies, under the guidance of a pediatric occupational therapist, the basement has been transformed into a gross motor playground, a huge room full of opportunities to dance, move, leap and play!
Our School
We are a Certified Family Child Care in the Woodstock neighborhood of SE Portland. We run an outdoor play-based preschool on 1/3 acre of nature and garden with plenty of room to run and play.
Outdoors year-round
We believe exposure to nature instills a sense of wonder and appreciation for the environment and nurtures children's curiosity, empathy, and ecological consciousness. With the right gear, we are outside year-round in virtually all weather!
Play-Based
Woodstock Garden School offers a child-led, play-based program designed to foster the holistic development of our happy kids. Rooted in the belief that children learn best through play, this curriculum offers a captivating and engaging learning environment where exploration, creativity, and social interaction flourish.
Required Immunization Information
Our vaccinations rates are: DTap: 100%; Polio 100%; Varicella, 100%, MMR 100%; Hep B 100%; Hep A 100%; Hib 100%
We do not accept non-medical vaccination exemptions. All children must be up-to-date with state-recommended vaccines or present a medical exemption from a physician.​
Small Group
Our infant/toddler cohort is 8 children aged 6 weeks-3 years with two dedicated teachers.

Our preschool crew is 8 children age 3-5 with two dedicated teachers.

We accept ERDC, CCI, and private pay for infants and toddlers. Rates are the same regardless of payment method.

Our Daily Rhythm
Our school day runs from 9am to 4pm. Children arrive and settle in, and enjoy music, free play, listening to a story and crafts, often outdoors immediately! Then we enjoy a morning snack around 10am. After snack, students may help with gardening, play outdoor games, dig in our construction site, pick berries, or simply explore the huge 1/3 acre backyard available to them. At 11:30, we have lunch (outside if the weather permits!). After lunch we head downstairs for nap in our dark and cozy basement nap room starting around noon. As children awaken, they are brought up for quiet free play and reading. We may take on an art project, play a game, explore toys, or simply watch the rain fall through the window. As all the nappers wake up, we head outside again for more adventures and exercise, as well as an afternoon snack around 3. We'll continue playing and exercising our bodies until pickup at 4:00, and the end of another wonderful day with friends.
